SKY SIMULATORS FOR PLANETARIUM

windows linux SPACECRAFTER : FREE and OPEN SOURCE with COMMERCIAL ADD-ONS
Our recommended sky simulator, made by planetarians for planetarians. Using Vulkan libraries and because of that, good recent graphic card required. It plays all kind of videos (Fulldome and rectangular with the free version and VR with add-on).
Projection mode: Fisheye

windows linux macos STELLARIUM : FREE and OPEN SOURCE
Working for all machines but not perfectly suited for planetarium usage. It can't play videos.
Projection mode: Fisheye - Spherical Mirror

linux STELLARIUM 360 : FREE and OPEN SOURCE
Old version of SpaceCrafter for old computers.
Projection mode: Fisheye

windows linux NIGHTSHADE LEGACY : FREE and OPEN SOURCE
Discontinued but works on old machines pretty well. Not resource consuming. A fork of Stellarium that brought SpaceCrafter to life.
Projection mode: Fisheye - Spherical Mirror

windows MITAKA : FREE
Maybe not much practical for talking about the sky of tonite but very well done for navigating outside of the solar system and the Galaxy. Possible to switch to STEREOSCOPIC mode.
Projection mode: Fisheye

windows WORLD WIDE TELESCOPE : FREE
A lot of scripts, pictures and textures included in this planetarium software.  Better with a  network connection. I hope it is more stable now.
Projection mode: Fisheye - Spherical Mirror

windows SPACE ENGINE : FREE with COMMERCIAL ADD-ONS
Awesome software permitting complete freedom in the Universe and lots of possibilities with cut edge graphical technology. Possible to record your travel in fulldome video.  It requires the best machine to provide its full potential.
Projection mode: Fisheye - Spherical Mirror

windows OPEN SPACE : FREE and OPEN SOURCE
It integrates a lot of functionnalities and accurate data to provide awesome presentations. Maybe not that easy to manipulate.
Projection mode: Fisheye

windows linux macos GAIA SKY : FREE and OPEN SOURCE
Integrates the GAIA catalog of stars and draw it in Fulldome. Includes the solar system as well.
Projection mode: Fisheye - Spherical Mirror

windows linux macos CELESTIA : FREE and OPEN SOURCE
The good old Celestia software with features permitting to use it in some planetariums. Especially appreciated for spherical mirror users running on MacOS. Not sure to get this version run on Windows, but originally it was possible...
